Let us look at our favorite.
In old master drawings section, retain Lot 4, an allegory by Jean-Baptiste Leprince (1734-1781) executed in pen, ink and gray wash over black pencil. This beautiful sheet signed by the artist and dated 1768 is estimated 2,500 to 3,000 Euros. Note the dimensions of this beautiful allegory, 32 x 23.5 cm.
In modern paintings, we stop on lot 32, an oil on isorel panel representing "deux pensées sur fond jaune" signed top right Bernard Buffet (1928-1999). Our painting is titled and dated "84" on the back and measures 35 by 27 cm. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and Maurice and Ida Garnier is expected to fetch between 10 and 12,000 Euros.
Among the works of art, the prize goes undoubtedly to the top lot of the sale with an estimate of 60 to 80,000 Euros (lot 186). It is a large polychrome painted enamel plaque depicting The Nativity with shepherds and announces to Gideon. This outstanding Limoges plaque executed around 1500 is attributed to the Maitre pseudo-Monvaerni several works by him are kept in French and foreign museums.
In the antique furniture section, two lots retain our attention. Starting by lot 237, which is an important “buffet deux corps” in walnut, molded and richly carved. It opens by four doors and two drawers. Our furniture is characteristic of the end of the Second French Renaissance and can be dated circa 1580-1600. It is estimated 3,000 to 4,000 Euros.
The second piece of antique furniture is a rare form chest of drawers scriban (lot 238) in oriental and European lacquers dating from the late seventeenth century. Our furniture can be compared with a similar study performed for Madame de Sévigné and now in the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. This is certainly a command executed partly in China and partly in Europe for the Compagnie des Indes. It is expected between 7,000 and 9,000 Euros. (main illustration)
