Valuation of a French marbre and ormolu portico clock, sold


Column Appraisal and valuation, Furniture and works of art

Jean Havin auctioneer in collaboration with our experts specialized in free valuation and free appraisal sold an important French Louis XVI style portico clock, on Sunday 13th May in Argent-sur-Sauldre.

 

IMPORTANTE PENDULE PORTIQUE en marbre blanc et noir et bronze doré.
Le cadran circulaire émaillé blanc à chiffres romains noirs signé Mabire Ainé à Bricquebec est flanqué de sphinges ailées en bronze patiné et sommé d'un aigle aux ailes déployées reposant sur un globe orné de foudres.
Les montants en pilastre ornés de figures en terme reposent sur une base en marbre noir à décrochements.
XIXème siècle.
H : 74 L : 51,5 P : 12 cm.

Une pendule semblable est illustrée in La Pendule française, de louis XVI à nos jours, par Tardy, Paris (reproduite page 123).
Il faut également citer une pendule portique comparable conservée au musée des Beaux-Arts de Boston (collection Swan); illustrée in Les bronzes dorés français du XVIIIème siècle, par Pierre Verlet (Paris, Picard, 1999, reproduite page 207, illustration 239).
